שנה לשילוח קורצ'אק ובית היתומים לטרבלינקה
דברי סגן השגריר הפולני בישראל

Shalom

I have rhe honor to address you today on behalf of the ambassador of Poland who wanted to be here’ but had to go to Poland for the annual Ambassadors’ Summit.

It is not my intention to speak about historical facts about tragic and heroic death of Janusz Korczak. So many important words about that were already said today. I believe it is crucial to speak about his amazing legacy – that is essential for many people’ also very young, in Poland, Israel and elsewhere.

Janusz Korczak, Henryk Goldszmit, or simply My Doctor… was and will forever remain a symbol for Poles and Jews. He was a man who wanted to eliminate the ethic and cultural intolerance that divided mankind.

Only a week ago “Haaretz” published a very interesting article about Korczak’s real legacy, so important for me, a young Polish man and a Polish diplomat in Israel.

I was lucky enough to experience Korczak’s ideas in practice. My teacher in high school admired them and tried to implement in everyday work. She succeeded/ Later on – at university – a few of my professors were using his philosophy in their work. And when I became a lecture and started teaching social psychology myself, I made sure that my students understand the legacy of Korczak.

But we can always do more. Always do better. This is why our government decided that the year 2012 will be the Year of Janusz Korczak. Thousands events across the globe were conducted by Polish embassies and our friends. Here in Israel, so many good things already happened thanks to the Korczak association’ the ministry of education and so many teachers and educators. Many things will be organized in the months to come. And this is important, because Korczak’s teaching cannot be forgotten.

,Thank you Mr.Jacek Olejnik
